K'gari (Fraser Island) is the world's largest sand island and the only known location where rainforest grows on sand. K'Gari means paradise in the native Butchulla language; imagine brilliant blue lakes, crystal clear waterways, massive dunes, and deep rainforests in a setting genuinely unlike any other. When the group arrives on the island, they will go on a 4x4 excursion, travelling along nearly 100 km of beach to get a sense of their surroundings. Then go for a swim in Lake McKenzie or look for wild Dingoes (this is one of the few spots in Australia where you may see them). Later in the day, return to Noosa. Awaken as the train arrives at your next location. Remember those childhood fantasies about being shipwrecked on a deserted island? (Is it just us?) In any case, prepare to revisit your castaway fantasies as you climb to an island lookout over Whitehaven Beach (one of the world's most famous beaches) and take in the vistas of powdered sand and the turquoise waters of the Coral Sea. You're unlikely to want to leave. And you haven't even descended below the surface! After some sunbathing on the beach, you'll be whisked away to another secluded tropical island, where the party will spend the night. Before travelling to the resort town of Airlie Beach for a night on the town with your best adventure buddies, swim, snorkel, or laze on the boat deck! Live it up because, let's be honest, how often do you get to be in this kind of paradise? We sail back to Airlie Beach and spend the night in a nearby beach hostel. Cairns is a great spot to visit if you enjoy warm weather and want to visit the Great Barrier Reef (it would be headline news if the city's temperature dropped significantly below 20°C (68°F)). Use a free day to sign up for one of the numerous optional activities that will get you out in nature's playground. Snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef, get your adrenaline pumping with whitewater rafting, skydiving, or bungee jumping, and then celebrate with your fellow visitors on a Big Night Out in Cairns. As of October 1, 2021, G Adventures' Vaccinated excursions Policy is in effect: all travellers must meet G Adventures' requirements in order to participate in their excursions. The majority of tours need travellers to be completely vaccinated, and the full/final COVID-19 immunisation must be administered at least 14 days prior to the start of the tour. Some tours and departures are only 'Travel-Ready,' which implies that all travellers must be fully vaccinated or have a negative COVID-19 test within 96 hours of the tour's start date. Please double-check the prerequisites of your tour and departure date with the G Adventures Support Team.
** Updated Vaccine Mandate Changes as of 16 December 2022 below**
Tours with Confidence & Vaccination We have continued to monitor and change our practises in response to changing vaccine mandates and countries' COVID-19 regulations. Based on this, we plan to make changes to our Vaccinated Tours and Travel with Confidence policies in 2023. We will no longer require all guests to be vaccinated to travel with G Adventures for tours departing on or after March 31, 2023. However, we continue strongly advise that all tourists be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to departure. According to our current policy, it is the obligation of the tourist to ensure that they are informed of and follow the legislation of the nation they are visiting. Please keep in mind that your travellers should have enough travel insurance to protect them if their travel plans change; this should include trip interruption and COVID-19 coverage. All departures of our National Geographic Journeys, National Geographic Family Journeys, and G Expedition will be completely immunised. More information on these rules can be found at https://www.gadventures.com/travel-with-confidence/. As we move forward with this transition, our tours will continue to be Vaccinated Tours, and you may look for the Vaccinated Tours icon to identify which departures are vaccinated and which will not require a vaccination. **Updated Vaccine Mandatory Changes as of December 16, 2022**
